Hello,

I am reaching out for help after recently escaping an abusive relationship with my three daughters, ages 15, 7, and 6. We left with nothing but the clothes on our backs, and while I was able to retrieve some of our belongings and put them in storage, the past few months have been incredibly difficult. My mental health took a hit during the relationship, and I was unaware of how trauma can cause brain fog and memory loss. It’s been four months since we left, and my oldest daughter and I are both in trauma therapy, but we’re still struggling to rebuild our lives.

Recently, I faced the tough choice between fixing my car or paying for storage. I had to get my car fixed, which left us with nothing to pay for our storage. As a result, all our furniture, computers, clothes, and family pictures were auctioned off. I had planned to move us into a new home by Christmas, but when my car broke down and I had to rely on Uber for two weeks, all of the money I had saved up was gone.

For the past four months, my girls and I have been staying in a friend’s living room. I am so grateful to her and her husband for their kindness, but it’s been a challenge, especially for my 15-year-old. She was very close to her dad, but the traumatic event that forced us to leave changed everything. She even had to call the police to help me, which was incredibly hard for her. Now, she has lost all of her belongings, as her dad refuses to help us in any way and blames me for everything.

We are trying to create some sense of normalcy for the holidays, but it’s been difficult. My friend and her husband are wonderful, but they are Muslim and do not celebrate Christmas, so we haven’t been able to decorate or create the holiday atmosphere I’d hoped for my girls. I am asking for help to provide some joy and stability for my daughters during this time, whether it’s financial assistance for moving, Christmas gifts, or any other support you can offer.

Anything would help as we work to start fresh and build a life free from abuse.
