Hi everyone, my name is Catherine. I’m a single mom of three amazing kids — two boys (ages 9 and 3) and a girl (age 8). I’m currently back in school working hard to earn my GED — I’m almost there!

I’m also about five months out of an abusive relationship, and while rebuilding has been tough, I’m determined to create a better life for my kids. Lately, though, things have been especially difficult. I recently lost my job and have been struggling to find new work. I do receive food assistance (SNAP), but with the government shutdown, those benefits are expected to stop in November.

I used my last paycheck to buy a car so I could get my kids to school and appointments, but unfortunately, the car has started having problems and won’t always start. Between that and trying to keep up with bills, I’m really struggling to provide the basics right now.

I’m reaching out — not for myself, but for my kids. We’re in need of help with groceries and Christmas assistance this year. My two older children understand what’s going on, but it breaks my heart that I won’t be able to give them the kind of Christmas they deserve.
