A daughter in desperate need of help to save home for mother and two little brothers. I’m only 18. Be worried about prom not how to keep my brother’s warm if we have to sleep in the car next week.😢
Hi everyone im samantha. This is really hard for me to write, but I’m at a point where I don’t know what else to do.
I turned 18 just three weeks ago. I’m reaching out because my family is facing eviction, and I’m desperately trying to help save our home. It’s me, my mom, and my two younger brothers.
Six months ago, my dad left unexpectedly. He met someone online, packed his things one day, and moved to Nevada without telling any of us. We didn’t even find out until he was already gone. While his leaving was emotionally devastating, it also meant we suddenly lost a large portion of our household income—he had a good job. My mom has since filed for child support for my brothers, but that process takes time.
My mom has been working nonstop. At one point she was juggling four jobs; she’s currently working three. I work full-time as well. I even quit school to help support my family, even though that’s the last thing my mom wanted for me. She’s still upset about it, but I couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
For the last three weeks, my dad has been telling my mom that he “sent a check.” She waited, checked the mail daily, even went to the post office to have them search for it. Nothing exists. No envelope, no tracking, nothing. Now he has blocked all of us completely. My mom hasn’t asked him for a penny since he left, and he doesn’t even know she filed for child support unless he’s already received the paperwork.
We currently owe two months of rent for November and December. With rent, late fees, and court costs, the total balance is $1,350. We have managed to come up with $650, which means we are $700 short of stopping the eviction. Our move-out date is December 31.
I know January rent is right around the corner, but right now we are just trying to get out of this immediate hole. If we can stop the eviction, we can handle January—even if that means eating late fees and catching up slowly. We just need a chance.
We have applied for every form of assistance imaginable—housing assistance, emergency programs, welfare, churches, foundations, Salvation Army, Red Cross. Everything is backed up. No one can help in the time frame we’re facing. There is nothing more the landlord or the courts can do, and I have stretched this out as long as humanly possible.
Coming here is my absolute last resort. I was hesitant to post because this is deeply personal and involves my mom’s private struggles, but I am sick to my stomach and out of options. I’ve even gone as far as making a Facebook video and a TikTok video—not asking for money, but asking for help, guidance, or emergency resources. I’ve tried applying for loans as well, but my dad ruined my mom’s credit, so that isn’t an option for us.
If there is any type of proof or additional information you would like to see—court paperwork, rent ledger, notices, or anything else—I can absolutely provide it. I understand the need for transparency, and I am willing to do whatever is necessary.
I am not asking for money. I am asking for help—emergency assistance, resources, or someone who knows of help that can happen within hours. Any direction at all could make the difference between us losing our home or getting through this.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Even that alone means more than I can put into words.
