I am reaching out with a humble request for assistance for my son, his fiancée, and their two-year-old son.
They are a young family doing everything they can to make ends meet. They live in public housing, where their monthly rent is approximately $711. My son works and does his best to provide for his family, but his income is limited. Unfortunately, even though they struggle to cover everyday expenses, they are told that they make just enough to be over the income limit for food assistance.
That leaves them in a difficult position — earning too much to qualify for help, but not enough to comfortably afford everything their family needs.
I am a United States Air Force veteran and currently work full-time myself. I help my son and his family whenever I possibly can, but I also have my own household expenses and financial responsibilities. As much as I would like to do more, there is only so much I can provide on my own.
The hardest part for me is that they don’t know I am reaching out.
My son and I are both the type of people who have a very hard time asking anyone for help. We would rather go without than ask someone else to step in. But as a father and grandfather, I am willing to put my pride aside and ask on their behalf.
I am hoping that there may be someone with a generous heart who would be willing to help this young family with food and household necessities.
Any assistance would make a real difference — groceries, pantry staples, cleaning supplies, paper products, laundry supplies, personal-care items, or other everyday household necessities. Even something small would help take a little pressure off of a family that is doing its best.
I am not looking for someone to solve all of their problems. I am simply hoping for a little kindness and a helping hand during a difficult time.
I am hoping for a miracle — maybe that miracle is simply finding one person with a big enough heart to say, “I can help.”
