You have questions. We hope to answer them below. Not seeing your question? Please choose the Contact 2Hands from the menu and send it our way. We will work to answer it as quickly as we can!
At the beginning of 2021, we were notified that Yahoo, who aptly hosted our site for 15 years, was discontinuing the site tool we used to maintain 2Hands. So we combined our volunteer brains and found a solution. You are looking at the new 2Hands and we are VERY happy with how it has turned out. We understand that for those used to the old layout may feel a little lost at first, but we are confident that once you get used to this new design, you will love it just as much. The old layout did not offer any ability for someone asking for help to have any control over their posting AND the old 2Hands did not render on mobile devices. So if you were on a phone, you were trying to navigate 2Hands from the desktop version which was a challenge to say the least. The new 2Hands is mobile friendly and gives someone posting a need FULL control over their posting with the ability to edit and delete. We hope you find it easier to use and if you have any questions or even suggestions, choose Contact 2Hands from the menu and send it our way.
First, please realize that it is not possible for every posting to receive help. We wish it were. No possible way to change that. We have a large group of people who help others every single day, but there are going to be those postings that do not receive help. There are a couple things you can do to help your posting however. Please look over your current posting. You need to realize that you are trying to get someone to help you with words. Someone that you do not know and who does not know you. Based on this fact, it should go without saying that a posting which is short, demanding, grammatically hard to read, rude or is strictly asking for cash without giving a good reason for it has basically a zero chance of receiving help. You need to spend some time writing your posting. You don’t have to be Shakespeare, but you do need to try your best to show you are putting effort into explaining your situation the best you can. Be honest and tell the reader what it is exactly you are needing and why. If you are not happy with your current posting, you can click the Manage Postings link from your dashboard and choose to edit it, or delete it altogether and then choose Add New Listing from your dashboard to create a new post. Our goal is to get you help and having a well worded posting is key. Finally, if your posting is a masterpiece, you are not strictly asking for cash and your need is perfectly viable and you are still not receiving help, we have to resign ourselves to the fact that not all receive help. Please note this: Chances are greater that you will not receive help over the chance you will receive help. Please keep your expectations reasonable and, after posting, please continue to look for other assistance resource as 2Hands.org is one of many available to you. While we do hear from people who are frustrated, angry and occasionally say harsh things about us….Please know that we are not going anywhere because the thousands upon thousands of people that do find help on 2Hands may not have if we were not here.
2Hands does not have the resources to verify postings. When you have found a posting you feel you may be able to assist, we will release that postings contact information so you can begin a safe dialogue prior to making the decision to provide assistance. Ask questions until you feel that everything checks out. Common sense plays a major role in making a decision to help another in need.
Your posting(s) will be found under your Dashboard. Once you login, you are directed to your dashboard, click Manage Listings and then you will see all of your posted needs. You can choose to delete them or edit them from this panel.
Once we inform you of assisting a posting, does their posting come off of the “Needs” request lists?
People asking for help on 2Hands are requested to remove their postings if they have received assistance making way for others who have not. If you see a posting you have helped and their ad is still live, please use Contact 2Hands from the menu and let us know.
Once we send you the poster's information, arranging the method of assistance is completely between you and the posting. Ask questions, do what feels most comfortable for you both. Many people meet, some ship assistance in the mail, others take postings shopping..... the options are wide open with the main factor being what feels most appropriate.
2Hands has been online for 18 years now. Starting as a local resource in Washington State. We are now nationwide and can say that over 72,000 people have been matched with those who have a hand to give through 2Hands.
Of course you can. The process is this: Please register to post a need by clicking Ask For Help from the menu. Then choose the category you want to post in and then any large city in the US to place your need. All we ask is that you make it very clear you are outside of the US and make your geographical location known in the posting.
We do not accept donations of any kind. To help us, please look over the postings of people in need and see if you can help one of them.
You have full control over your postings for help on 2Hands. Login to 2Hands and from your dashboard, click the Manage Listings link. From there you can choose the Edit button for the posting you want to edit.
Login to 2Hands and then you will be at your Dashboard. Or you can click My 2Hands Dashboard from the menu. Once at your Dashboard, click Manage Listings. From here you will see your active Posted Needs. Beside each need you will see an Edit or Delete button. Choose Delete.
The only people who need to register are those who are going to Post a Need. If you are a person or family wanting to help a posting on 2Hands, then registering is not necessary. Simply choose Offer Help from the menu, find a posting you feel you would be a good fit to assist, write down the posters 6 digit ID exactly as shown on the posting and click Request Information from the menu. Complete the form found on the Request Information page and we will send you the contact information of the person who made the posting so you can start a dialogue with them about assistance.
All postings are live for 90 days unless removed by you prior to that 90 days expiring. You will receive an email when your post is getting close to expiring so you can choose to renew if you like.
If you have received help fully, we ask that you login to 2Hands and from your dashboard, click Manage Listings and delete the posting related to the help you received. We also ask that you let us know by choosing Contact 2Hands and submitting a testimonial that we can add to our testimonial page. It means a lot.
Yes, within reason. You may have several types of needs. You could have a need for Christmas help as well as a need for help with your electric bill for instance. Feel free to post a need in the Christmas category as well as the Non Christmas category. You can also choose to post more than one need in the Non Christmas category as long as each posting is unrelated. For instance, you can have one posting asking for help with your car that is not running and another post asking for help with food and another post asking for help with school supplies. You can also ask for all of these things in one post as most Angels use the search feature and your ad will return as a result even with just the one posting. WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED is post swamping which is placing the same post in every city and category. These will be removed and your account deleted.
If you create your account using anything other than the 6 digit ID that the registration page generates for you, your account and any postings will be removed by the system. It is VITAL that you only use the 6 digit 2Hands ID as your 2Hands username when registering. Anyone registering using letters for a username will be removed. We have found that people occasionally use names, or other possibly personally identifiable information when creating their 2Hands username which is why we now only allow a six digit ID, which we generate for you, as your username on 2Hands.org
