I recently started a work from home job and in my contract it states my cell phone must be operational to continue employment. I have been “robbing Peter to pay Paul”, so to speak, and have been shuffling my internet, car payment and phone bill money around. Every month one or more is threatened to be taken from me. Last month, all three disconnect/repo notices came at the same time. I opted to pay the internet in full because I knew the WFH job was coming. Then I got notice that my car was on the repo list and scrambled to come up with the $800 necessary to prevent that from happening. I am currently $387 behind on my car payment, and $226 behind on my phone. I got an extension from Verizon because I was due to be shut off the day I started working from home. I also requested an extension from the finance company who has agreed to give me a few more weeks to become current.
My struggle has been this: My father passed away last year and I was sexually assaulted on the way home to his funeral. I had a weird feeling about the man who tried to sit next to my daughter so I made her trade me seats and she sat next to my son. I do not want to go into further detail, please accept that. I came home and went straight back to work without access to therapy due to insurance/costs. I carried on for as long as I could before my mental health ultimately cost me my employment. I lived as best I could from my savings and income taxes, while also attending therapy again and looking for new employment – but ultimately, I fell behind.
I have another job now and am working as much overtime as they will allow (by Wednesday this week, I had already worked 33 hours), but this money will not show until my next pay check and by then I will be due for this month’s bills, which will leave me in the same position.
I have reached out to 7 local churches, as well as my local Saint Vincent de Paul and Salvation Army. Saint Vincent paid $100 of my balance for Verizon, but so far no other luck. They were able to help with food boxes which was extremely helpful. I also work side jobs cleaning houses every other weekend to help catch myself up.
As you can see, I AM trying. So much in fact, that I rarely get to spend time with my children. Im not asking for a hand out, I am asking for a hand UP.. because, I have fallen. If you’ve taken the time to read this far, I sincerely appreciate your time.
