Hi. My name is Lacie McDowell , I am 44 I have been married to Britt for 28 years, we have 3 kids , our son is 26 and lives on his own.Our oldest daughter Jack just turned 24( who I foolishly thought was unbreakable😥) in August ,and our youngest daughter Kasi is 16 they both live at home and they are the greatest daughters to ever be created by 2 humans❤️. We also have a 9 yr old granddaughter by our son. We’ve never been rich financially, but we’ve also never felt we needed to be, we’ve always made it tho. In June my husband lost his job due to tearing his meniscus in his left leg, also in June my sweet strong, beautiful, loyal Jack was diagnosed with a life threatening ultra orphan disease called TTP, a disease so rare that only around 2,000 ppl a year have it in the U.S.. After we went to the hospital in June assuming she had kidney stones, we wish that had been the problem. Her platelets which should be at least 150,000 were 13,000 and her body was destroying her red blood cells. We went to ER in Lagrange Georgia and she was transported to Kennestone hospital( our hospital didn’t have a plasma exchange machine )in Atlanta Georgia 120 miles from home( I followed closely in our ill running vehicle) where she had a catheter put in her neck ( another terrifying experience that was traumatic) so she could receive plasma exchange (take her plasma out & replace with a donors).. in Lagrange they had told us to prepare to be in kennestone 2-3 weeks.. God gave us a miracle because we were there 3 days and all her blood work was normalizing, we got to go home with the knowledge it could happen again at anytime with no warning or specific cause and we had to drive to Lagrange weekly from our home in Hamilton to see the oncologist .. on July 2nd my granddaughter came to live with us with only the clothes on her back ..needless to say with all of this we fell behind on all of our bills and can’t get completely caught up tho we are trying.. Sept 29th was my 28th anniversary and it was 3 months to the date that my daughter got sick which would mean it was in remission, it was also the day my daughter relapsed this time we were transferred to Kennestone hospital a week and another catheter went in her neck, only this time she got plasma exchange, daily shots in her belly ( even when we went home), and her first round of chemo to suppress her immune system, and high dose steroids for a month, upon being released on October 5th we now had more blood(which we are grateful for) check Dr.visits and weekly chemo infusions. It’s difficult and stressful but mostly we’re just so damn grateful God allowed us another miracle. We would like to be able to make appointments with specialists that know more about this extremely rare disease but they are all in Atlanta at least 130 miles away from us. Although my husband went back to work right before Jack relapsed, we are still catching up on our rent , utilities, and tho I’m grateful and not complaining but the cost of staying at hospital and fuel costs hurt us a bit,so we haven’t been able to afford the additional cost just yet.. our family is ( usually) very prideful and we do not ask for help so it’s a little embarrassing but if God can save my baby I guess we can swallow a little pride and admit when we could use a hand . Well this was as short as I could get our story, and these are our reasons we could use assistance . Even if you don’t think you can assist us, thank you for reading our story hopefully at the least it touched your heart and you’ll say a little prayer for our baby’s health..❤️❤️❤️ p.s. The help we could use is with catching our rent up or Christmas for our granddaughter.. anything is greatly appreciated..
