My husband and I lost the stable jobs we had for ten years after federal funding was cut. This happened in March, and it was a very difficult time for us. Fortunately, we were able to find new employment shortly after. However, in October of this same year, we were laid off again for the exact same reason. We truly believed this new program would survive, but unfortunately it did not, and we are once again unemployed.
We had very little savings, and we have been doing our best to stay afloat by paying overdue bills and other expenses. We have not been able to pay our rent for December, and we are now behind by $1,350. The finance company keeps calling, reminding us of the late payment and trying to scare us by saying the house could go to auction and that there is no assistance available.
We are extremely worried. There will be no Christmas gifts at home this year, which is something we can accept — what matters most is that we have our health and the determination to keep moving forward. My husband and I continue applying for jobs everywhere we can.
