Unfortunately, I have been laid off from my 3rd job in 2 years. I have been looking for a job, either with no replies from companies or the canned responses that they have chosen another candidate. Shortly after starting previous job I had to have emergency surgery, with no PTO or STD available as I was only a month into the job, we had to live off of some of our savings, then I ended up with an infection from the surgery so out of work again. Went back to work started building up savings and guess what…another emergency surgery, infection, another emergency surgery, I was eligible for short term disability at 50% of my pay which came to 500 a week. Savings gone, I have a basket I call BOB_Basket of bills, at the same time my husband was also having medical issues. We are at the point of what do we pay. His paychecks are 1200 every 2 weeks, that doesn’t cover our rent of 1600. After rent and utilities, we are lucky to have 20 t0 30 dollars left, and with the government shut down, the food banks are very low on supplies. If anyone would be kind enough to help us with a couple of months’ rent and maybe a gift card for groceries it would be so appreciated. It’s hard for seniors to get the help we need, we have applied and been denied for SNAP, we have tried other places for help, but they are out of funds, or they go to women and children 1st as it should be. We would be grateful for anything.
