I don’t usually share personal things, but I’m swallowing my pride and being honest. I’m basically a single mom. My partner struggles with alcoholism and is very verbally abusive, and he doesn’t help with our child or with anything at home. Right now, this is the only place I have to go with my daughter, so I’m doing the best I can to keep us safe and together.

This year has been so much harder than last year. I’m exhausted, overwhelmed, and heartbroken. I don’t have anything to give my daughter for Christmas this year — not even a tree — and it breaks my heart watching how excited she is for Christmas morning, believing in the magic, while I feel like I’m failing her.
