I am a female veteran who has been experiencing homelessness since June. After a series of significant personal losses and a battle with long Covid, I suffered a debilitating mental health crisis. This led to the loss of my job, my car, and all my savings, and I entered a homeless shelter with my service animal.
I have since taken a positive step forward and am now staying in a transitional housing program for female veterans, where I am receiving support to secure permanent housing. I am on track to move into my own place by mid-to-late January.
However, I am facing a critical, time-sensitive crisis that threatens the last of my possessions. Before entering shelter, I placed all my belongings into a storage unit. Among these items are the urns of my mother and grandmother, all of my clothing, furniture, and household goods—essentially everything I have left to rebuild my life.
Due to having no income, I have relied on others to help with the storage bill, but it is now two months past due. The facility has added a lien fee, and the entire contents are now subject to being sold at auction. Losing this unit would mean losing irreplaceable family memorials and the basic necessities to set up a home next month.
I took a title loan on my paid-off car as a last resort during my crisis, and when I couldn’t keep up with payments, the car was repossessed. This storage unit is my final anchor.
I am humbly asking for help to cover the past-due amount and lien fee to prevent the auction and allow me to keep my belongings until I can move them into my new home in January. Any assistance would be a profound blessing and would protect my last tangible connections to my family and my ability to start anew.
Thank you for your consideration and kindness.
