Our family is facing one of the hardest chapters of our lives, and I’m reaching out with a humble heart to ask for a little help.
My husband Tony is battling a rare cancer called ampullary cancer. After months of chemotherapy, difficult decisions, and so much uncertainty, he is scheduled to undergo a major and very complicated Whipple surgery on December 4 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
This surgery is going to be a long and difficult journey, not just for Tony, but for our entire family. We are holding onto hope and praying for the best possible outcome.
There is another part of our situation that makes this especially difficult. I am the sole caregiver for Tony’s mom, Tony’s aunt, and our daughter, who has autism. There is no outside family support available to step in and help us through this. I carry the responsibility of caring for our family while also trying to be there for my husband through his cancer battle.
One thing I hadn’t fully realized until now is how many expenses come along with being there for someone you love during a major surgery.
I’m hoping to get help with the following expenses:
- $450 – Lodging: Three nights near Henry Ford Hospital so I can stay close to Tony, especially during surgery and his initial recovery.
- $100 – Gas: Traveling back and forth to Detroit.
- $150 – Food: Meals while we’re away from home and at the hospital.
- $100 – Tony’s needs: Personal necessities and items he may need during his hospital stay and recovery.
Our goal is $800.
I want to be by his side, be there when he wakes up, and stay close enough to support him through whatever comes next. At the same time, I have responsibilities waiting for me at home, and no family support to help carry those responsibilities.
Asking for help isn’t easy for me. But cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed. It affects the entire family emotionally, physically, and financially.
If you’re able to help in any way, even a little, it would mean more to us than you could ever know. And if you can’t give, sharing our request or simply keeping Tony in your thoughts and prayers means just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for showing kindness to our family during one of the hardest times in our lives.
We’re fighting for Tony, and every bit of kindness helps us keep going. ❤️
