Alone in this country, lost my job, and running out of time — please help me not lose everything

I don’t know how to begin this, so I’ll just be honest. I am tired, I am scared, and I am asking for help because I have run out of ways to do this alone.
My name is Bankim. Years ago I left my home in India and came to this country with almost nothing but faith and a promise to myself that I would work hard and make my family proud. And I did. For years I got up every day, did my job, paid my own way, and never once asked anyone for anything. I was proud of the life I built here. Small, but mine.
In June 2026, that life fell out from under me. My job was eliminated in a layoff. One conversation, and everything I had worked for started slipping away.
Since then, I have fought every single day. Five months of applications. Five months of interviews that end with “we went another direction.” Five months of telling myself “tomorrow will be the day.” I still believe it will be. But hope doesn’t pay rent, and my savings are gone.
The hardest part isn’t the money. It’s the loneliness. My family is on the other side of the world. In 2024, I lost my mother. I couldn’t stop it, and I still carry that grief every day. She was the one who always told me everything would be okay, and right now I would give anything to hear her voice say it one more time. There is no one here to call. No family to move in with. No one to sit across the table from me and say “we’ll figure it out together.” At night, it’s just me, a quiet room, and the fear of what next month brings.
I’m terrified of losing the room I rent in a shared house, the one place that still feels stable. I’m terrified of my phone being shut off, because that phone is my lifeline to every employer who might finally say yes. I am so close to getting back on my feet. I can feel it. I just need to survive long enough to get there.
What I’m requesting your help for:
About $2,000 to get me through the next month. That covers my share of rent, groceries, my phone, and basic bills. Not luxuries. Just enough to keep a roof over my head, food on the table, and my hope alive.
Any amount helps. A grocery gift card. One bill paid. A little toward rent. To you it might feel small. To me, right now, it would feel like someone reached into the dark and took my hand. If you would rather pay a bill directly instead of sending money, I welcome that completely and will gladly verify anything you need through 2Hands messages.
I’m not asking anyone to carry me forever. I’m asking for a bridge, a chance to make it to the other side. And I give you my word: when I am standing again, I will find someone sitting where I am sitting tonight, and I will do for them what I am praying someone will do for me.
If you’ve read this far, thank you. Truly. Whether you can help or not, you took a moment to see me, and that matters more than you know.
With a heavy but hopeful heart,
Bankim (Fremont, CA)
